Thrift – Bedruthan Steps

Nicola Morgan

We call it ‘Thrift’,
though there’s no flower
less ‘thrifty’ than this:
its lavish adornment
of the headland,
edging the sea cliffs,
clinging tenaciously
in out of bound places.
A rich candytuft pink,
compliment to the
deep turquoise of sea.

An iconic scene.
A picture postcard view.
A photographer’s dream.

Be it in glistening sunlight
and shimmering sea
or brooding sky
and scurrying waves,
tide in or tide out,
the eye delights
in the candyfloss pink,
and the superabundant
generosity of
‘Thrift’.
